The Psychology Consultancy (UK) Ltd

Neuro-developmental service

(Speech and Language Therapy)

We may be able to help children who are older than two years, but still use only a  few words, struggle to make their needs known, because their speech is unclear, or children who are on the autistic spectrum and unable to communicate.

What do we offer?

The service offers clinic-based screening assessments and direct speech and language therapy for pre-school and school aged children.  This service may be particularly useful for children with specific language impairment, difficulties with their speech-sounds, and children with mild autism spectrum disorders who need specific help with their communication skills.

How to refer

Referring a child is easy. All we need is for you to ask your GP or health visitor to send us a written referral explaining the concerns about your child’s communication development.

Once we have received the referral, we will send you an information pack and a Parents’ Questionnaire which need to be completed and returned. When we have received all the information, we will contact you to set up an initial appointment.

What happens at the initial appointment?

The speech and language therapist will go through your parent questionnaire with you in order to get a clear idea of your concerns.  She may also spend some time with your child doing an initial screening assessment. Usually the initial assessment takes a little longer than a therapy session, but at the end of the session, you will be told what we are able to offer and how your child’s progress will be monitored.

A friendly, approachable service

The clinics are based at a local children’s centre in Ipswich, so children can be seen in a child-friendly environment in a convenient location with car parking.

Some fine print

In order to keep the service accessible to most families, there are some things we are not able to offer. For example, we do not provide assessments for Special Educational Needs Tribunals.  We may also not be able to help some children with very complex needs, for instance, when speech therapy is best provided in the context of a full multi-disciplinary child development team.
